Hyundai started the 2023 year with bang by launching the Ioniq 5 electric car in the Indian market. It is the brand’s 2nd electric vehicle in India after the Kona electric. In its segment Hyundai Kona is one of the least selling vehicles generating double digit sales only. The new 2nd gen model aka 2024 Hyundai Kona electric has been revealed overseas. It can give rivals a run for their money if we look at specs.
2024 Hyundai Kona Electric – Battery & Range
The 2nd gen Hyundai Kona electric gets 65.4 kWh and 48.4 kWh battery pack. The larger battery pack offers a WLTP estimated range of 490 km which is 38 km more than 452 km that Kona electric offers at present. On the other hand 48.4 kWh battery pack offers 342 km range.
The electric motor packs 154 bhp in smaller battery pack and 214 bhp in the larger battery pack while torque remains same at 255 nm on both variants. Through fast charging the larger battery pack can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 40 minutes. Hyundai has added a lot of electric elements on the car and it also includes a frunk storage. In terms of dimensions the Kona electric has grown up by 175mm in length, 25mm in width and 20mm in height. Wheelbase too is now 60mm longer. This is to make sure that Hyundai Kona electric performs well in space and practicality. If we talk about boot space then it is of 466 litres on the Kona electric. Additional frunk storage too is of 27 litres.
2024 Hyundai Kona Electric – Interior & Features
What makes the new Hyundai Kona really interesting is the 12.3-inch dual-screen panoramic display that gives the car an edge in technology it offers. Hyundai has positioned the gear selector from center console to behind the steering wheel. Now in open console area there’s decent space to keep stuffs. Ambient lighting is also on offer here. Hyundai will offer OTA updates on the new Kona electric for maintenance and adding new features with time.
This particular model has been revealed overseas. India launch of the 2nd gen Hyundai Kona hasn’t been confirmed yet. As Hyundai was quick to launch the international-spec Ioniq 5 in India it could happen for the new Kona electric too. If launched the new Kona electric will rival the Tata Nexon EV Max, MG ZS EV and Mahindra XUV400 in its segment.
