- Bajaj Chetak electric scooter will get a range increase of 20% over the current model to 108 Km per charge
- Battery pack size and performance figures remains same as there will be changes in battery management software only
After launch in January 2020 Bajaj Auto is gearing up for the first big update on Chetak electric scooter. RTO documents shows that there’s 108 Km Bajaj Chetak variant in the making. The document has leaked online and it shows changes in range only.
Battery capacity and power output remains same as before. Bajaj Auto has played with Battery Management Software of the Chetak electric scooter to increase its range. This small change in software has made Chetak’s range to go up by 20% or 18 km. Current model of the Bajaj Auto gives 90 Km range.
Bajaj Chetak 108 Km Range
In 108 Km range variant Bajaj Auto will offer 2.88 kWh battery pack that we see on the current model. This is Lithium-ion battery pack that is water resistant. If we look at the rivals then claimed IDC range on single charge is still more than the Bajaj Chetak 108 Km range variant.
For Ather 450X claimed IDC range on single charge stands at 146 Km while for Ola S1 Pro it stands at 181 Km. TVS iQube IDC range on single charge is 100 Km which is slightly less than the Bajaj Chetak. However TVS iQube ST variant offer 145 km range on single charge which is impressive.
It’s not clear whether Bajaj Auto will charge a premium for 20% range increase on Chetak. Considering the fact that it is one of the least selling scooter in its segment Bajaj Auto should retail the 108 Km range variant at current price which is ₹1.52 lakh (ex-showroom). This will help the Bajaj Auto to grab a chunk of ever growing electric scooter segment.
