Mahindra eKUV100 Launch Cancelled – No Electric SUV Under ₹10 L

  • Mahindra will not launch any electric car under ₹10 lakh and hence the launch of eKUV100 has been ruled out
  • By 2027 Mahindra plans to launch 8 electric cars which includes Born Electric (BE) and XUV.e range only

In September 2022 Mahindra revealed the XUV400. It wasn’t the first electric vehicle from the brand but it is the first seriously developed EV from Mahindra. After XUV400 there were expectations that we may soon hear some news regarding Mahindra eKUV100 launch.

eKUV100 was supposed to be the first mass market electric vehicle from Mahindra. Upon launch it would have given serious competition to Tata Tiago EV and upcoming Tata Punch EV. Mahindra revealed the eKUV100 at 2020 Auto Expo with expected price of ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh.

Initially eKUV100 launch was planned for Q1 FY20 but it got postponed many times. At some time it was covid then battery and supply chain issues. Delay in launch clearly showed that Mahindra wasn’t interested in launching eKUV100 anytime. Same has been confirmed now.

Plans to introduce the small electric eKUV100 car has been cancelled. It is confirmed by Rajesh Jejurikar who is executive director of auto and farm sector at Mahindra Group. He didn’t gave any solid reasons regarding the launch cancellation of eKUV100.

Rajesh Jejurikar said that it is unlikely that Mahindra will introduce any electric car under ₹10 lakh. Instead of fleet operators who want to buy EVs under ₹10 lakh Mahindra plans to target aspirational customers only.

Mahindra XUV400

15,000+ Bookings For Mahindra XUV400

Revealed in September 2022 Mahindra is on roll with 15,000 bookings for the XUV400 electric SUV. Launched in January the XUV400’s introductory price of ₹17 lakh to ₹19 lakh was limited to first 5,000 customers only. In first four days of launch Mahindra XUV400 bookings went past 10,000 and now it stands at 15,000 mark.

Recently Mahindra revealed its 5 upcoming electric SUVs which includes Born Electric (BE) and XUV.e range. The BE range constitutes BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09 models while another two models are XUV.e9 and XUV.e8. All models here will be priced at ₹20 lakh to ₹50 lakh range. So it is clear that in future Mahindra wants its sales to be driven by high-end electric SUVs and so eKUV100 launch has been cancelled.
