- 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Hyundai i20 is now axed due to upcoming BS6-2 emission norms
Hyundai has updated its entire lineup ahead of BS6-2 emission norms kicking in from 1 April 2023. Recently South Korean giant launched the updated Grand i10 NIOS and Aura to meet upcoming emission norms. This was followed by the launch of its best selling products like Creta, Venue and Alcazar as well. Now the brand has updated the Hyundai i20 as well. As a part of it Hyundai i20 diesel has been discontinued.
Hyundai i20 Diesel Discontinued
What made Hyundai to discontinue the 1.5-litre diesel engine on the i20? Well it is the upcoming BS6 Phase 2 emission norms. The i20 now gets 1.2-litre petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine only which are now Real Driving Emission (RDE) compliant. The same hasn’t been carried over in the 1.5-litre diesel unit and so it has been discontinued.
1.5-litre diesel engine on the Hyundai i20 produced 99 BHP and 240 Nm. The engine was paired with 6-speed manual transmission. Hyundai used to offer this engine in Magna, Sportz and Asta (O) variants. Apart from this Hyundai has also discontinued iMT variants with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine on the i20.
