India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has got huge response from customers for the Jimny SUV. Since its debut on 12 January the SUV has got 700-750 bookings every day on an average. This has made Maruti Jimny bookings to cross 16,500 mark. With success of Grand Vitara and Jimny Maruti is on its way to grab a huge chunk of the ever growing SUV segment.
The SUV segment is largely dominated by Mahindra. Thar is the biggest rival of the Maruti Jimny and it is well received among customers. When Mahindra launched Thar it has no rival at all and this made its bookings climb much faster. Just before the commencement of Jimny bookings Mahindra launched the Thar RWD to target those customers waiting for the Jimny.

One can book Maruti Jimny in two available variants – Alpha and Zeta. Even though Maruti Jimny bookings have crossed 16,500 mark prices of the Jimny is yet to be revealed.
We expect Jimny to start at close to ₹10.00 lakh (ex-showroom) as its closest rival Thar RWD starts at same price. The SUV gets 1.5-litre petrol engine that packs 104 PS and 134 Nm. 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions are available with this engine. 4×4 drive system is standard on the SUV.
As Maruti Suzuki is very close to launch the 5-door Jimny soon we will get another 5-door off-roaders in the market. Mahindra Thar 5-door and Force Gurkha 5-door will soon hit the market to rival Jimny.
