Way back in 1945, Tata Motors was founded as Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO). After 53 years of founding Tata Motors entered the passenger vehicle market in 1988. It has been 35 years now. In 1998 Tata Indica was launched and it was sold like hot cakes. Since 1998 Tata Motors has recorded 50 lakh sales in the passenger vehicle segment. In 1988 Tata Motors produced its first passenger vehicle known as the Tata Telcoline (now known as Tata Yodha). Then in 1991 the immensely popular Tata Sierra was launched. The Indica was first breakthrough product of Tata Motors which was launched in 1998. It drove sales of the brand till 2007 by selling 1.44 lakh+ models annually.

Since 1998 Tata Motors has sold 50 lakh passenger vehicles. The race to achieve sales milestone started with the Indica and it continues till date with Tata’s best selling models like Nexon and Punch. First 10 lakh sales of Tata Motors came in between 1998 to 2004. If we talk about the last 10 lakh models then they were produced in just 2.5 years.

In 2010 Tata Motors sales cross 2 million followed by 3 million in 2014. In October 2020 Tata Motors achieved a major sales milestone of 4 million models. Now in March 2023 the brand’s sales have crossed 5 million models in passenger vehicle segment which is huge. Producing 10 lakh models in just 2.5 years is a huge feat achieved by Tata Motors.

As 50 lakh sales is a major milestone for Tata Motors the brand will roll out several benefits to its employees and customers. Tata Motors will be initiating a month-long campaign for its customers and also its employees. Dealerships will receive branded apparels and emblems depicting 50 lakh sales milestone.

At present Tata Motors sales are largely driven by the Nexon and Punch. On an average the Tata Nexon sells 14,000+ models followed by 12,000+ monthly sales volume for the Punch. In future there are some exciting products we will see from the brand which includes the Tata Curvv, New Tata Sierra and several electric vehicles.
